Since January 2017 KUPEG – one of the leaders on the European credit insurance market – has been known under the new name of Credendo – Short-Term EU Risks. The company’s internationalisation, broader product offer and wider availability for customers have been followed by another change – the appointment of a new Country Manager for the Polish branch. Paweł Pawlak, former head of sales and experienced expert in the industry, will replace Michał Winiarski.
Editors: The company is going through a big change. What are the reasons for that?
Paweł Pawlak: The reason was our willingness to adjust our offer to customers' needs and to market requirements. Our mission is to provide tailored solutions for the management of receivables and – by working under a common name – we will be able to intensify such activities. Credendo is the 4th largest European credit insurance group. Today, the different legal entities remain, but the common brand is also used by all companies of the group: Delcredere | Ducroire, the parent company, Credimundi, KUPEG, INGO-ONDD, Garant and Trade Credit. So from now on Polish customers can benefit from the offers of each of these entities.
Another significant change is a new Country Manager for the Polish branch. Michał Winiarski, chief architect of Credendo in Poland, has decided to leave our team, which we really regret, as he is a recognised expert with extensive experience in the industry. I think, however, that he is going with a clear conscience, because he knows that he is leaving the company in the hands of a good team which – for the past two years – we have been building together.
E: Will further changes also follow?
PP: I am determined to keep various solutions introduced by Michał and these will remain an integral part of the company. We will not be changing our mission, which is to work closely with our customers and to ensure a high product standard. However, each year, thanks to the rapid development, the company takes a different shape, and the team is growing. The business environment also changes and we have to react accordingly. We want to strengthen our position on the Polish market and – because we like a challenge – I am sure that we can expect an interesting future.
E: Has the company already prepared its strategy for 2017? All forecasts indicate that this could be a demanding year for international business.
PP: The risk is always there, but we have a lot of experience and know how to minimise it. A team of experienced specialists constantly analyses the global micro- and macro-economic situation. We also closely collaborate with our customers, which helps us find a way to minimise the risks associated with their business activities.
As far as debt management is concerned, we have a really interesting range of solutions: broad trade credit and single-risk insurance, excess of loss, top-up and guarantees. In 2015, our group insured transactions worth 84 billion euros and recorded revenue from insurance premiums in the amount of 390 million euros. This is a good and safe basis that allows us to give our customers real security – not just a sense of security.
Paweł Pawlak is a professional with many years of experience in credit insurance. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Warsaw School of Economics, a Master’s in Political Science from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and a Master of Business Administration from the Leon Koźmiński Academy of Entrepreneurship and Management. Prior to joining Credendo, he worked for his own broker company, and also as a Sales Director at Coface Austria and Coface in Poland. He headed the sales department of Euler Hermes in Poland and also spent two years in Germany, working as an Assistant to the CEO of Aldi Einkauf GmbH.
